Drupal is becoming popular in government sectors and now The Department of Commerce (USA) is planning to replace its existing website with Drupal-based system. The Commerce Department is asking vendors to submit information about the difficulty and feasibility of adapting Drupal, according to a request for information the department published on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site on Nov. 27.
The downloadable PDF says “The Department of Commerce (DoC) is seeking information on the design, development and operation of a Drupal-based website hosting system, including resources required to manage the website in order to efficiently serve its employees and the general public.”

The agency is seeking how Drupal can host multiple websites under different domain names and under a single domain name with custom theme.
Recently the White House switched to Drupal and when asked to Dries Buytaert in an interview, creator of Drupal, he says "I believe Drupal's momentum in the government sector will continue because Drupal offers agencies an open technology platform that enables officials to engage with their constituents in an open, transparent manner," Buytaert said. "Drupal's flexibility and modularity results in the availability of thousands of plug-ins that enables organizations to build sites quickly, at lower cost than most other solutions."
